BLACK BEAUTY

Formed from the ashes
Dust and clay
Modelled into essence
As alive as day.
In our first breaths
Lay the unison of life,
The gift of grace,
And blessings bestowed by the sun.
The same light
That nurtured us,
Fed our melanin,
And dawned onto us, a new age.
We bathe in her embers
O mother!
To whom we praise for this black skin,
This eternal treasure.
We do not falter
In our excellence,
Our exuberance,
Our beliefs.
From time,
You have looked down on us,
Suppressed our culture,
Our lands, our birthrights.
Now my Fro
Pays no heed
To the wind
That blows against it
My skin,
Glistening in the light of your Gods,
My body, blessed,
Rich in its curves, and definitions.
My lips,
Offer constant praise
To her
Who we dedicate this beauty.
When your eyes fixate upon me,
You feel her embodiment,
The fire I am born with hidden beneath,
Preserving this black skin.
We have been blessed
By the sun, and the moon,
Night, and day,
Heaven, and earth.
We are a reflection
Of the light of the sun,
The greatest gift tomorrow holds,
We are black.
