“PRISONER IN THE DARK”

Updated: Oct 8
Here we are again
Reliving painful moments
Picking up what’s left
The remaining pieces of me
I see now that I can’t run
I can’t escape whatever this is
This sickness deep down
This darkness that haunts me
I’m so tired of fighting
Words can’t describe
The torture
I’ve put my heart through
The tears don’t fall anymore
Just as the pain is desired
My heart no longer feels genuinely
Just as my soul doesn’t know it’s place
In a different life
To be happy would be attainable
I’m a different life
I would fight to be free
But in this life
I’ll always be a prisoner
A mere reflection
A façade
I want to heal
I want to let go
I want to feel
I want to love
But to these I do not belong
I’m designed to take it all
The despair, the agony, the sorrow
The hate, the rage, the pain
The heartbeats I hear
Are no longer mine
They reflect my souls distress
They reflect my death
I ask not that you remember me
I ask not that you sorrow for my passing
I ask not that you say my name
And bury me in the dust as I came
I’m consumed by grief
Eaten up by guilt
Devoured by despair
And deformed by pain
I’m sorry I’m not enough
I didn’t know my mind
Could make me feel so worthless
I didn’t know I’d be a prisoner here
In my own soul
I wish not to be free
Not from this quest on which I embark
Lord save me
As I embrace the prisoner in the dark
